Iron Tide — Free Online Horde Defense Game

Iron Tide is a free browser game where you command a squad of soldiers holding the line against an endless tide of enemies. Your squad auto-fires upward while waves of grunts, runners, brutes, snipers, and drones march down the road toward you. Collect weapon crates to upgrade your firepower — from spread shots and rapid fire to rockets and lasers — and survive as long as you can against increasingly dangerous waves. Every fifth wave brings a massive boss fight: armored warlords, siege tanks, and gunships that fill the screen with bullets. Destroy explosive barrels to damage nearby enemies, grab shield and heal crates to stay alive, and activate Overdrive to double your fire rate when things get desperate. The deeper you go, the tougher the iron tide becomes.

How to Play

Movement

  • A / D or Left / Right arrows — move your squad left and right.
  • On mobile, use the on-screen d-pad.
  • Your squad auto-fires upward — no fire button needed!

Special Ability

  • Space — activate Overdrive (doubles fire rate for 3 seconds, 15-second cooldown).
  • On mobile, use the OVERDRIVE button.

Power-Ups

  • Weapon crates (orange, green, red, purple) — switch weapons or level up your current one.
  • Blue crate — temporary shield.
  • Green + crate — heal 3 HP.
  • Yellow B crate — screen-clearing bomb.

Tips & Strategy

Upgrade Smart

Picking up the same weapon type twice levels it up, but switching weapons resets you to level 1. If you already have a level 2 spread shot, think twice before grabbing that rocket crate — unless you really need the burst damage for a boss fight.

Use Barrel Explosions

Explosive barrels deal area damage to nearby enemies when destroyed. Let enemies cluster behind a barrel, then shoot it for a satisfying chain reaction. Barriers and sandbags can block your shots though, so plan your positioning.

Save Overdrive for Bosses

The Overdrive ability doubles your fire rate for 3 seconds. It is tempting to use it on tough waves, but saving it for boss encounters — especially when they enter their enraged phase below 50% HP — can make the difference between victory and defeat.
