Battle Boat — Free Online Fleet Strategy Game
Battle Boat is a free online naval strategy game where you position your fleet and then duel the CPU in a battle of deduction and firepower. No download required — the game runs entirely in your browser, fully unblocked, on desktop or mobile. Before combat begins you arrange your ships on your half of the ocean grid: drag each vessel into position, rotate it horizontally or vertically, and pack your fleet anywhere on your side of the board. Once both sides are ready, the battle begins and you take turns calling shots at each other's hidden fleets.
A hit lights up in red, a miss shows a white splash, and a fully destroyed ship is revealed in full. The first commander to sink every enemy vessel wins the match. A new random board configuration is generated for every game, so no two battles play exactly the same. Quick to learn and genuinely tense to play, Battle Boat is a satisfying strategy game for any skill level.
How to Play
- In the placement phase, drag each of your ships onto your grid. Click a ship to rotate it between horizontal and vertical orientations before placing it. Ships cannot overlap or hang off the edge.
- Once all ships are placed, click Start Battle to begin. The CPU places its own fleet randomly on the opposite grid.
- On your turn, click any cell on the enemy grid to fire a shot. A hit lights the cell red; a miss marks it with a splash. The CPU then takes its turn.
- When all cells of a ship are hit, the ship sinks and its full outline is revealed so you know that vessel is eliminated.
- Sink every enemy ship before the CPU sinks yours to win the battle.
Tips & Strategy
Both your placement decisions and your firing pattern have a big impact on your chances of winning. A few key principles separate strong players from lucky ones.
- Spread your fleet. Clustering your ships together makes it easy for the CPU to rack up consecutive hits once it finds one vessel. Place ships in different corners and away from each other to make each discovery as isolated as possible.
- Use the edges. Many players instinctively avoid placing ships along the border of the grid, which means the CPU's random shots will be less likely to find yours if you tuck a ship into a corner.
- Hunt in a checkerboard pattern. Since the shortest ship occupies two cells, you only need to probe every other square to guarantee you hit every possible ship. Fire in an alternating diagonal pattern to maximize coverage efficiently.
- Switch to target mode on a hit. Once you score a hit, fire at the four adjacent cells to find the ship's orientation. Then chase along that axis until the ship sinks before returning to your search pattern.
- Account for remaining ship sizes. As ships are sunk and revealed, you know exactly how long the remaining enemy vessels are. Eliminate grid cells that cannot contain a surviving ship to focus your fire on viable locations.
